Challenge

As human beings, every year, we generate an average of 700 million tons of waste per year. The situation does not seem to be improving and it is estimated that the average will increase to 1200 million tonnes by 2050. Viruses and bacteria proliferate every day into waste: plastic doesn’t decompose and is rarely recycled or reused.

Waste energy composition

The standard municipal waste contains water, solid residues, and recoverable metals, but consists of an average of 35% to 56% of energy compounds: a large amount compared to other elements. These compounds are usually not valued, burned or dumped. Medical, industrial, and agricultural waste can be used as a source of energy.

Solution

We want to achieve a more sustainable economy, eliminating any bacterial load by Recovering, Recycling and Converting waste into clean and Green Energy using the most advanced technologies. We value the chemical components of the feedstock producing different outputs like alternative fuels, chemicals, Syngas and electric energy.

NEW POLITICAL ECONOMY

The European Commission adopted a new action plan in order to support the circular economy which includes several goals and actions:

Increase recycling and recovery of the materials from waste

Reduce the emissions of transport and industrial sectors with alternative fuel and chemical recycling

New environmental policy by increasing tax for incineration and support with economic incentives the shifting to alternative solutions

DSC Solutions built and set up a project to implement the European directives through business partnership between companies from different industries, strengthened by the experience of its technology partners. We research and integrate different waste management technologies into our projects, having clear objectives: neutralization of the environmental impact caused by incorrect waste management, increase the recycling rates, recovery and monetization of the energy content that takes place by producing advanced electricity or hydrocarbons.

Our future projects will be created according to the highest sustainability standards, and our goal is to ensure that our production is climate-neutral and waste-free.

TECHNOLOGY

Converter®: from SOLID WASTE to REFUSE DERIVED FUEL (RDF)

Converter® is a patented eco-friendly method used to convert different types of waste into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) which is sterilised, physically modified, reduced by volume, dehydrated, and reduced by weight.

The process doesn’t use chemicals, combustion, microwaves, or pressure and doesn’t produce emissions. This technology sterilises the waste (from viruses and bacteria) through the high temperature obtained by frictions and not by flames. The result is a dry product without risk, odourless and usable as a fuel, that could be used to produce energy (thermal, electrical, syngas, and hydrocarbon). This technology represents an excellent solution for the immediate treatment of waste in the places where it is produced (villages, hospitals, ports, airports, shopping centres, resorts, large buildings). This technology is particularly useful for infected hospital waste.

INPUT: Municipal solid waste – Hospital infected waste.

OUTPUT: RDF

PI PLANT: from RDF to ELECTRIC ENERGY

NORMALIZATION OF THE FEEDSTOCK

Waste is converted into a dry and homogeneous RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) through a mechanical process that reaches temperature up to 150°C sterilising the input from infection hazards.

DECOMPOSITION OF THE RDF

The RDF is slowly pyrolyzed and then gasified at low temperature to avoid the formation of pollutants, producing SYNGAS (Synthetic Fuel Gas). The SYNGAS produced is immediately burned to eliminate any residual pollutant and to produce heat. The completely inert ash is released at the end of the process.

VALORIZATION OF ENERGY AND METALS

The recoverable metals are separated from the ash and valorised in materials.

The heat is transformed into electricity by steam engines or ORC turbines.

INPUT: Municipal solid waste – Industrial, hospital and agricultural waste.

OUTPUT: Thermal Energy – Electricity

BIOREFINERY: from ORGANIC FRACTION to LIQUID HYDROCARBONS

This technology, through a cracking process and distillation, can convert the organic material of different origins such as organic waste from the forestry or agricultural sector, the organic fraction of household waste and the RDF in large scale hydrocarbons with characteristics similar to those of Diesel.

The fuel produced by urban waste has the same density and calorific value as fossil fuel with a sulphur content of less than 0,5%.

The fuel produced by urban waste has the same density and calorific value as fossil fuel with a sulphur content of less than 0,5%.

INPUT: Biomass – FORSU (or OFMSW) – Plastic – Polyester – Wood.

OUTPUT: constant quality of 2nd Generation Alternative Fuel (Lubricant, Diesel, Gasoline) used to generate energy (recovery) or made new plastic (chemical recycling)

SIGMA: from SOLID WASTE to TERMAL ENERGY or ELECTRICITY

This innovative technology allows to turn the mixed waste (it can be loaded into the system as it is collected) to energy through the oxidation of the organic compounds, and produces High-Quality Synthetic Fuel Gas, avoiding the formation of flames.

Syngas is immediately burned at 1100°C, for at least two seconds, to eliminate any residual pollutant, then this good quality exhausted gas is used to produce renewable energy by an ORC turbine. The recoverable metals are separated from the ash and valorised.

Once the process is started, it is self-sustaining.

INPUT: Any type of waste, mixed or separated.

OUTPUT: Thermal Energy – Electricity

ABOUT US

DSC Solutions is an environmental consulting company that deals with the creation and management of projects that transform waste materials, such as common waste or biomass, into energy (Circular Green Economy). Our main business area is second-generation biofuel, other than rapeseed or palm oil biodiesel, but our plants also allow us to produce electricity, heat, or gas.

Through our accurate and continuous research of innovative technologies for renewable energy all over the world, we offer patented and certified plants for separating, recycling and recovering the waste material creating energy without free flame or harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

We are the reference point for the creation of industrial value for our customers and partners in the innovative sector of energy from waste.

WHO WE HELP

Waste management companies to find a safe and steady way to daily dispose of tonnes of waste.

Energy companies to produce and sell electricity, gas, thermal energy by renewable resources.

Oil companies to increase the quantity of Alternative Fuel to follow the European laws and to create a sustainable different way for the availability limited of fossil oil deposits.

Financial Investors to make a profit in the green renewable energy sector through a highly attractive economic and business model.

National or Regional Governments that want to create a circular economy inside their territory, create new green job opportunities, and solve step by step the increasing waste management problems.

DSC Solutions offers years of experience to his customers and, through feasibility studies, finds the best technologies to increase the efficiency or solve problems of our affiliated partners, also with taylor-made financial analyses.

Thanks to our experience, we can help the customer to search various and more profitable feedstocks in the area, or the missing part in the project.

TEAM

ALBERTO FRATA

Co-Founder, CEO and CTO (Chief Technical Officer)

Alberto Frata has always been passionate about industrial technology: he has more than 20 years of experience in metalworking, industrial production process, chemical plastic and environmental management. He was previously general manager of Acton Technologies SRL and founder of a new plastic recycling company which gave him a high-level experience in waste management as well.

Attracted by the renewable energy sector through his experience, he researches and develops innovative technologies to transform waste into energy. Through the study of EU directives, he is one of the main experts in the Alternative Fuel sector and chemical recycling.

ROBERTO FREZZA

Co-Founder and General Manager

Roberto Frezza graduated in Economics and Business, and he has more than 15 years of experience as an entrepreneur. Roberto learned the trade skills from his father Maurizio, which has great success in Italian furniture and interior design business. Frezza Arredamenti SRL is an international brand that also works in Russia and India.

After 3 years working as Financial Advisor in a 50 years old Germany OVB Holding, he quickly stepped into the Green Economy and renewable energy business: he was previously involved in global projects about plastic to fuel (still one of coordinators in Corsair Group), he co-founded DSC Solutions to develop the concept of Circular Economy, and follows the goal of 0% waste with strong technological and business partnerships.
